When I decide to go out shooting the sunset, I often ask myself, will there be a colorful sky today?
That evening in Costa Rica it should be perfect. The sun set the sky on fire and the reflection in the sea were so intense that I could hardly tell the border between heaven and earth. It felt like flying between two heavens. Definitely one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve seen in my life. SEE DETAILS | BUY PRINT

In Costa Rica I felt like traveling back in time. In its beautiful nature you find yourself in jungle with no human soul for miles. Sometimes I had the feeling there has to be a dinosaur around the next corner. Some plants I was seeing for the first time and they were just huge, like this 1,5m large leaf in the picture. Never before I was standing speechless in the green that often like in this Central American paradise. This was for sure not my last visit to this wonderful country.

During our trip through Costa Rica we stayed for a couple of days in a small surfer village called Dominical. The first evening was very special already. The sun was setting behind a slight layer of clouds. Due to that, the big fireball painted the beach red while a lonely surfer was going in to the sea.

When I’ve seen this man walking on this lonely beach I thought that has to be like the aborigine of Costa Rica felt. Lonesome watching over the endless beaches of the Pacific and Atlantic Coast. It had be a strange feeling when the first discoverers landed in their ships and conquered the land.

UFO clouds I only knew from nature documentations. I had never seen one with my own eyes. When we were hiking in the Arenal National Park in Costa Rica the rainy weather got slowly better and one cloud was moving perfectly over the peak of the volcano Arenal.

The volcano Arenal (1670m) in the heart of Costa Rica showed no activity for about 400 years. This was also the reason why no volcanic origin of the cone was believed until its first ascent in 1937. At this time, it was completely overgrown with plants. Today the youngest volcano of the country is one of the most active in the world.
Often the summit is hidden in the clouds. This morning, however, there was a wonderful view of the volcano. Surrounded by hummingbirds, I could photograph its surprisingly colorful beauty at sunrise. SEE DETAILS | BUY PRINT

When we landed in Costa Rica the rainy season had just started and we didn’t know exactly what to expect. It took us not too long to realize it’s a paradise for animal lovers. In the first national park that we visited at the volcano Arenal a couple of toucans followed us around. What a warm welcome to this beautiful country.
