The Milky Way is unbelievable wide and indescribable beautiful. Since the first photo I'm fascinated about it. Billions of stars form structures and colors, which are in the true sense of the word galactic! In Mai 2016 I was able to capture the core and its surrounding for the first time with a long exposure on Corsica. The result surpasses all of my pictures of our home galaxy in terms of exposure time and the details takes my breath away every single time I see the image.

These Stones at the west coast of Corsica will be remembered for a long time. The shapes were incredible beautiful at this location. I could hardly decide which place I should capture due to the diversity. Before sunset I places my tripod at this narrow path and could not believe how lucky I was when the sun came out over Capo Nero for a blink of an eye. Here I could have taken photos for days. A magical place of silence and energy.

Sometimes you need a bit of luck in photography to be at the right place at the right time. This sunset I would have missed if my location spotter wouldn't have had the idea to walk the last 100m up the hill. Originally I've planned a picture with the lighthouse of Ile Rousse in the north of Corsica and the setting sun in the background. However, the sunset was even more stunning with the flourishing flora in the foreground.

In early summer there's a spectacle to watch on Corsica. The Milky Way is visible in all its glory in the Mediterranean night sky. In this picture our galaxy stretches across 13 photos above the Genoese tower of Lozari. The Genoese towers in Corsica are a series of coastal defenses constructed by the Republic of Genoa between 1530 and 1620 to stem the attacks by Barbary pirates. I asked myself if the architects of these towers had been mesmerized by the sparkling stars as well?
This night was like a movie. When we planned to leave our house at 01:00 three horses were blocking the road in front of the entrance gate. The neighbor had to catch them before we could leave and that took a while. Afterwards we were the only ones on the street until a wild rabbit crossed the street and forced us to a hard stop. The way to the tower we had already scouted at daylight, that we could spend calm hours in the nature of Corsica.

Corsica offers some of the most beautiful coastal areas which I've seen so far. Especially in springtime the flora is just amazing! Next to prickly friends the Hottentot plants Carpobrotus gives the landscape a colorful surface. In combination with a stunning sunset this moment near Calvi was mesmerizing.

The island of Corsica is surrounded by Genoese towers. Some of them you can visit, like the Torre Di Capanella. After a steep hike down and up we reached the highest point of Serra die Ferra just in time to capture this wonderful sunset.

For some pictures it's really hard to find the right words. This photo is one of them. How small is the possibility that a shooting star is burning out in this very moment? Just amazing!

Often the sun disappears behind clouds close to the horizon. This time the sunset was just perfect in Ile Rousse on the island of Corsica. Thousands of birds were flying around the light house when this amazing day was going to end.

Preseason on Corsica means no people, cold water and dark nights. It was unbelievable, five nights in a row the sky was crystal clear in the northern part of the island. That's heaven for every astrophotographer! Furthermore, the light pollution was even smaller because most of the restaurants and hotels were still closed.
On this day we've spent the afternoon at the beach of Lozari and we already had a feeling that the Milky Way would look nice above the mountain chain. At 03:15 this became reality. With my 50mm f1.4 lens I was able to shoot a panorama of the Milky Way, which I will remember for a long time.

At some places which we are visiting I'm asking myself if the owner was aware about his photogenic property. This happened when we were wandering around the island of Corsica. It looks like the landlord is living in the center of the Milky Way. Enviable!
