The story behind the picture: The James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) is a submillimetre-wavelength telescope located on the Big Island of Hawaii. Its primary mirror is 15 metres across. After spending seven hours at 4000m capturing my huge panorama of the Milky Way it was time of the final ascent to the summit of Mauna Kea.
