When I decide to go out shooting the sunset, I often ask myself, will there be a colorful sky today?
That evening in Costa Rica it should be perfect. The sun set the sky on fire and the reflection in the sea were so intense that I could hardly tell the border between heaven and earth. It felt like flying between two heavens. Definitely one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve seen in my life.

This shot shows one of the most incredible sunsets I've ever witnessed at the west shore of Tenerife in Palm-Mar. The sky was painted in red for almost an hour. Despite the great outcome of the photo the conditions where pretty difficult. The wind was blowing like hell and the splashing water forced me to clean the lens almost every minute.

The story behind this picture, which shows the southernmost stones of the big island of Hawaii, might sound a bit crazy. The Image looks rather nice and smooth but when I was standing on these slippery rocks a huge wave almost washed me away. Normally you won't mess with the Hawaiian shore because of the strong current and the sharp lava rocks. Nevertheless I had to take my chances on this beautiful Sunday morning. I visited South Point many times before to spot the perfect location. Of course when I arrived in complete darkness the shore looked very different and it took me a while to find the same rocks again. When I did so, I left my backpack in safety and placed my camera ready for sunrise. In the end I was happy with the final three long exposures for sky, sea and the rocks. Still one of my favorite places on earth.

There are places on Earth which are hard to beat. This house at the beach is located on the Island of Kaua'i. On this morning we were mesmerized by the sunrise because we've rarely seen it like that. Kaua'i is called the Garden Island due to its diverse flora and there's a lot of rain on this island. When I first visited Kaua'i back in 2010 it was raining cats and dogs for three days straight. Also the night before this picture has been taken the sky was covered by clouds. Nevertheless, we went down to the beach and were hoping to catch the sun for a moment. We were lucky! For a couple of minutes, the sun came out and painted the landscape with warm colors. Next to us was a Hawaiian native who was blowing a conch shell horn to greet the upcoming day. That made this moment very special.

Speaking of Hawaii, most people immediately think of wonderful sandy beaches. However, before such beaches develop, the water whips thousands of years at such spiky lava stones. The wild water makes photography in these places not really safe. Therefore, it is advisable to keep your feet dry.
This picture shows the south of the Big Island of Hawaii at sunset. On the left-hand side in the picture you can see the shadow of the largest mountain in the world, Mauna Loa."

When I’ve seen this man walking on this lonely beach I thought that has to be like the aborigine of Costa Rica felt. Lonesome watching over the endless beaches of the Pacific and Atlantic Coast. It had be a strange feeling when the first discoverers landed in their ships and conquered the land.
