For more than 30 years I’m visiting my family for Christmas in the canton of Zurich. When on that morning thick fog was lying over Lake Zurich I brought my camera for the first time with me. Arrived at the farmhouse of my ancestors the vista was just breathtaking. The fog was slowly moving over the hills vegetated with solitary trees. What a great view from the garden of my grandparents.

Sometimes I have the feeling it has to be destiny. For a long time, I wanted to take a photo of a sunflower field at sunset. Until now I could find one close to home. Last week on the way home from work we took a detour and did find this magic place! I could believe that this place is just 10 minutes from home. The setting sun made this moment perfect. Breathtaking!

Some photo ideas need almost endless patience. Not only taking the photo also the waiting for the right condition is sometimes hard. When I discovered this tree I knew that I had to shoot star trails above it. But in my mind I had a picture with a snowy landscape. With snow not only the stars are shining, even the surface of the snow sparkles. Unfortunately, there were never snow and a clear sky at the same time in the past 2 years. Until this magical night! The conditions were perfect. The moon was half illuminated and the sky was very clear. The temperature dropped to -15°C that night, therefore the camera was completely frozen after 5 hours. The result, the image out of my dreams.

After a short night I decided to go see the sunrise at Lake Pfäffikersee. When I was standing there the fog was slowly moving over the water and the ducks and swans were waking up and looking for food.
Am I really standing here or is this still a dream? Magic moments.

Some days are truly magical, there are mystical places just around every corner. This was the case on this cold autumn morning in Meilen. I've passed this place many times before, but that day it felt like I hadn't woken up from a dream. The fog enchanted the forest and the road suddenly led into the unknown.

Sometimes I ask myself how the world would look like if there weren’t any people on earth. At new moon there must have been an astonishing darkness. Not only in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, everywhere! This tree, which my girlfriend and I visit frequently, I wanted to show with a composing for once. How would it look like without humans? The Milky Way is aligned like this but the light pollution blocks this magical spectacle.

Autumn is that time of the year with the most beautiful sunsets. On this evening we were very lucky that the sky had intense colors in our neighborhood.

When we were looking for solitary trees we found this beautiful pond called Teufenbachweiher in Schönenberg. The surrounding got a nice color due to the setting sun. Somehow I felt connected to this place, without knowing it. Later I heard that I was already here with my parents for a couple of times. Photography, sometimes a journey to the past.

Some days start cloudy, dark, just dull. Like today when thick fog covered the landscape. But then suddenly there was light at the horizon! For a short magic moment, the sun came out, devoured the fog and showed off fantastic colors. We felt like flying between two heavens. A sunrise like this will be remembered for a very long time.

Sunsets. Always a fascinating spectacle of mother nature. eye and soul can’t get enough of it. Last week above Lake Zurich I witnessed a cloud red like fire which was reaching from Mount Rigi over the whole lake basin. Amazing!

This landscape looks like painted, especially at sunset. The hills reach from the canton of Zurich to Zug. Almost on every hill stands an up to 200 year old lime tree. These trees mainly remember a special political or historical event. However, some of those trees were planted when a descendant was born. My grandparents moved decades ago to this region and could already enjoy this beautiful vista. Ever since I was a small boy I was wandering through this landscape with my parents and I will do the same with my children. These lime trees, they will remember my forefathers as well.

When I was walking through the landscape of Seegräben at sunrise I’ve already seen from a distance bright shining patches hanging from the plants. As I got closer I realized that these patches where uncoutable of spider nets.

The sun is vanishing behind the hills of the Kanton of Zurich, the antenna on top of the Uetliberg is sending the last radio signals by daylight and the afterglow is reflecting itself in Lake Greifensee. This is what might be called a perfect summer evening in the Zürcher Oberland.

We were standing on our balcony when the rain began and we asked ourselves if there would be a sunset this evening. When we got to the lake the rain stopped and the clouds slowly turned red. Until then we’ve never seen the sky above Lake Zurich so colorful. For a couple of seconds, the surrounding was colored in a reddish tone. A highlight!

Sometimes you’re standing behind the camera and can’t believe what you’re seeing. In what wonderful world we live in! When I’ve seen this picture with this intense colors on the display I was speechless. The sunset was so intense that the red color last just of a moment. For me it looks like waves which are rolling through an ocean of fire.

Winter is coming and divides Switzerland in two worlds. The snowy tops of the Swiss Alps reach into heaven whereas the rest is still green. In this picture it looks like the layer of fog represents the border in between.

Very low fog above Lake Zurich is a wonderful spectacle. A long exposure reveals fascinating shapes which move over the landscape.

In the winter months fog around Lake Zurich is quite frequent. On the way home from a sunrise shooting I found myself among these mighty trees. It seemed they had encircled me. The thick fog made this vista mystical.

You should definitely know Mount Hörnli if you know the region called Zürcher Oberland. After a quick hike to the top we arrived on time for a wonderful sunset at the summit.

On this day, I got up, was looking out of the windows and I couldn’t believe what I’ve seen. Due to the low fog during the night this tree was frozen and gave a great contrast to the bench.

Countless people miss this view on the way to work. I stopped here for a moment and enjoyed the first sunrays above the fields of Uetikon am See.

I haven’t seen so much snow on Mount Pfannenstiel (853m) for a long time. When I reached the top, nobody else was there. Just me and the slowly moving fog above the landscape. Pure silence in this deep-frozen world.

Autumn in the forests of Zurich is an unbelievable blaze of colour. From a bird's eye view we couldn't believe how many colours we were seeing. It was a fantastic sight that I thought could last all year.

The most beautiful places are sometimes to be found just around the corner. I captured this amazing sunset at the Bergstrasse in Männedorf.

Taking atmospheric images doesn’t always require driving through half of Switzerland. Incredible beautiful places are sometimes located very close. This scene I captured for a local project at the harbor of Männedorf. In the past I’ve notices that the surface of the water is quite calm, even when Lake Zurich is wavy. The setting sun set the sky on fire and made this moment unique.

I’ve never flew in a hot-air balloon, nevertheless I imagine it has to be very exciting moving across the landscape driven just from wind and thermal lift. A small burst of fire from time to time to extend the journey, almost like in our life.

After long weeks in the fog the trees in Männedorf got a white dress. On this afternoon the sun was shining through and gave the landscape this bright face.

Just a few meters in height can make the difference. When fog lies above Lake Zurich, the peaks of central Switzerland are shining in the beautiful twilight. The soft curves of the fog and the sharp edges of Mount Pilatus create wonderful contrast.

Some people say I’m an artist, but the real artist behind all my pictures is mother nature. I just mount my camera on my tripod and wait what nature offers me that day. On this evening the sunset was spectacular, when the sky was burning more and more. A fantastic spectacle.

Sometimes the sunset gives the Lake of Zurich wonderful colors. In this photo it seems the sun had set the clouds on fire. That evening I was able to see the city of Zurich from Männedorf and Uetikon. In the middle of the lake you can see the ferries which connect Horgen and Meilen.

In Switzerland, we can’t build houses at the sea, but a house at the sea of fog is almost as beautiful. That evening, a layer of fog was resting above the landscape. This farm house looked like they built it at the shore of the sea of fog.

For a long time, I was living in Zurich and enjoyed the frenetic urban life as you can see in my time lapse video Zurich City Night Lights. Due to this activity you hardly see the stars and silence is rare. You don’t have to go far and all this suddenly changes. On this day the fog was very thick and covered the whole Lake of Zurich. I decided to go to Mount Pfannenstiel, which is just a couple of minutes from my new home. On the top you usually meet people especially at sunset, but at 03.00 A.M. I was all by myself. I was able to see the mountains of my childhood and I had a moment of peace.

From the Zürcher Oberland to Rapperswil and the upper part of Lake Zurich, there lies my home called Ausserschwyz with the Glarus Alps in the background. Here I spent my childhood and I like to look back with this picture at sunrise.

Countless times we’ve seen the solitary trees on the hills of Hirzel on our way back from other locations. At this sunny afternoon the landscape showed off its most beautiful side to shoot the trees. If you look close enough you can see the sheep next to the tree.

There is is! The biggest Moon for almost 70 years! Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great and the 2x converter on my 600mm lens diminished the quality as well. Nevertheless, I was very happy when the moon was slowly rising behind Mount Bachtel. The funny thing was from a distance of 15km it was for a long time hard to tell where the moon was rising. 2034 will be the next chance to capture the moon that big.

After a trip through the Zurich Oberland I just wanted to lay down. But mother nature had a surprise for me. The sky got unexpected beautiful colors above Mount Rigi.

Sometimes I press the shutter button, look at the picture on the back and think for myself, ok that is nobody going to believe. The clouds which were lying above the Zürcher Oberland and Mount Säntis looked like I used a filter to expose them a couple of seconds. However, on this morning they really looked like this, mother nature did a great job. Such clouds I see very rarely.

High above the fog there sits the queen of the mountains, Mount Rigi (1798m). In the background you can see some of the most famous peaks of the Swiss Alps like Mount Eiger (3970m), Mönch (4107m) and Jungfrau (4158m).

This photo has been taken at August 29th 2015 at 5:15 A.M in the Zürcher Oberland from a distance of almost 200m. My girlfriend got instructions by phone where she had to stand exactly. Due to the large focus length the full moon moved quite fast through the frame, therefore the capture was more stressful than I thought. I was very happy with the result because I had this image in mind.

In May I already captured this scene with 1200mm. The full moon is setting on the other side of Lake Zurich. This time I tried my luck with 850mm. Due to better weather conditions I got a much sharper image. The photo almost look like a composite, but it is real.

In this moment you can see a flash which was striking Lake Zurich twice. Just a couple of minutes later I had to pack my gear really fast because of the intense rain showers.

Mount Säntis (2502m) is one of the most visible mountains in Switzerland. On clear days at sunset the whole wall gets a nice reddish color.

When it comes to quality of living Switzerland always gets a high score. You don’t have to ask why when looking at this picture. That afternoon I was able to escape the fog and could enjoy this breathtaking view just a couple of kilometres away from home. You can see the Albis mountain chain, Mount Rigi (1798m) and even the famous mountains Eiger (3970m), Mönch (4107m) and Jungfrau (4158m) in the background.

This Farm is located on a hill the Kanton of Zurich. When a spectacular sunset was happening I was looking for a nice frame with my 600mm lens and found this scene. Especially the solitary tree was an eye catcher. When the cloud formation got even more fascinating and the colors more intense I was amazed.

In this sunny Sunday afternoon, I was in the mood for a quick photo tour. That weekend the moon was almost full and I decided to check where it was about to rise in my neighborhood. Luckily a decent spot was close to my apartment. From here the moon should rise behind Mount Bachtel (1115m) the online tool said. 45min before moonrise I arrived at the place and mounted my gear with the 150-600mm lens on the tripod. For strollers it looks quite strange if someone stands in the middle of a field with a bigger lens. I admit it was a bit hard to tell what my intentions were because Mount Bachtel was almost 13km away. And it was even harder to tell when the moon wasn't there yet. Due to such situations I had some funny conversations in the past.

On this morning the fog was slowly flowing above the landscape and divided the snowy mountain range by the warmer region of Zurich. It felt like a dream.

The world just above the fog sometimes looks truly breathtaking. The civilisation vanishes and only the most prominent of landscapes characteristics are visible. Like this tree hovering above the clouds. Sadly, this spectacle was over as fast as it appeared.

In the last daylight, the fog was slowly moving across the landscape. A traveler painted some trails into my photo with his backlights of his car. A moment like a fairy-tale.

At the first Christmas day, I was standing in the backyard of my family in Schönenberg. The sun was slowly setting behind the hills and the clouds began getting a reddish color. A frozen track led me to these trees which set on fire by the afterglow.
